October 2011 on Like Mam Used to Bake

I can’t believe that it’s been a whole month since I did my first monthly round-up post.  I have been a busy bee in the kitchen this month as I started my Christmas baking.  I also have a couple of new books to add to my shelf and I will bring you some news on these during November I hope.  Outside of that the focus has been on Halloween.  I hope you all have a lovely day today, and that you don’t encounter too many ghosts and ghouls.

I started the month off with some Apple and Cinnamon Muffins.  I seem to have quite a lot of apples knocking about the place so I am baking quite a lot of apple based things the last few weeks.

Next up I put together a plan for Christmas.  I know, I know it’s still October but a little planning and prep done in advance can take a lot of the stress out of the big day.  If you want to plan ahead check out my Christmas Checklist.

Next up I made my Christmas Cakes.  These benefit from time to mature to ensure the best flavour come the big day so now is the perfect time to make them.  The recipe also makes two cakes, perfect if you want to share a little bit of Christmas love with someone.

With pumpkins cluttering up the local shops I though it was time to get my Halloween bake on with some Halloween Brack.

I slipped back into Christmas baking mode just long enough to make my Christmas Puddings.  Again, this recipe makes two so perfect for sharing your baking efforts with someone else.

Finally I made a twist on the traditional toffee apple.  I think my Inside Out Toffee Apples make the perfect dessert for Halloween, or any autumn/winter day.
